General Information - Dr Tomasz Kuc
Dr Tomasz Kuc is an eye specialist with many years of professional experience. In 1996, he graduated with honours from the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Lodz. Then, he interned at the 7th Navy Hospital in Gdansk Oliwa, where he gained knowledge of ophthalmology under the direction of Dr Maciej Januchta. In 1999, he earned a first degree of specialisation in ophthalmology, and five years later he received a second degree of specialisation in this field. In 2005, he began his doctoral studies at the Medical University of Gdansk under the supervision of Prof. Barbara Iwaszkiewicz-Bilikewicz.
He gained experience at renowned medical centres. From 2001 to 2004, he was Head of the Glaucoma Department at the Gdansk Health Centre. In the years 2004 – 2010, he worked as a senior assistant in the Department of Ophthalmology, University Clinical Centre in Gdansk.
Since 2010, Dr Kuc has been working at Laguna Medical Pomeranian Health Centre in Gdynia, where he is the head of the Retina Clinic and the Department of Retinal Diseases. Since 1999, he has a specialist medical practice in Gdansk, Reda and Kartuzy. In addition, he heads retina clinics at specialist hospitals in Zgorzelec (since 2010) and Kolobrzeg (since 2013), where he performs vitreo-retinal surgery. He is a member of numerous prestigious Polish and foreign scientific societies, including the Pomeranian Branch of the Polish Ophthalmological Society, the European Vitreo-Retinal Society, and the European Society of Retinal Specialists.
Dr Tomasz Kuc prioritizes procedures of the highest quality and patient safety. He is continuously broadening his knowledge and gaining new skills through participation in numerous courses, trainings, and scientific symposia in the field of ophthalmology. He participated in a training on the use of Ozurdex to treat macular oedema due to retinal vein occlusion. He also participated in the 6th Vitreo-Retinal Symposium and the 3rd Glaucoma Workshop in Lodz organized by the Ophthalmology Department of the Instytut “Centrum Zdrowia Matki Polki”. He verifies and improves his knowledge of surgical techniques under the direction of Prof. Claus Eckardt from the Klinikum Frankfurt Höchst in Frankfurt am Main. He has many scientific achievements; he is the author of over 20 papers and presentations at national and international ophthalmology symposia.
Dr Kuc combines his wide-ranging expertise and many years of professional experience with an open, individual approach to patients and their needs, which helps him gain their respect and trust. He was awarded the Certificate of Patient Trust (Certyfikat Zaufania Pacjentów) in 2012 as part of the "Laur Pacjenta" Polish Medical Plebiscite. Procedures in which Dr T. Kuc specializes
Dr Kuc carries out a wide range of diagnostic tests and ophthalmological procedures. He diagnoses numerous eye diseases using OCT (optical coherence tomography) of the retina, optic nerve and anterior segment of the eye; A-scan and B-scan ocular ultrasound; pachymetry; and the Zeiss GDx Nerve Fibre Analyser test. He also conducts eye biometrics, retinal and corneal topography, endothelial microscopy and intraocular pressure measurement. He specializes in retinal and macular surgery. He performs vitreo-retinal surgery in patients with retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy and macular diseases; he performs intravitreal injections of Ozurdex and Triamcinolone and secondary intraocular lens implants. He also treats eye diseases using laser; he performs laser treatment of glaucoma and retinal diseases, YAG laser iridotomy, and laser procedure for secondary cataract. He also performs laser vision correction and blepharoplasty. He treats patients with age-related maculopathy, conjunctivitis, dry eye syndrome, and ocular trauma.
